Payroll Analyst - International

About Deliveroo

At Deliveroo, our mission is to build the definitive food company. To make that possible, we’re creating an environment where everyone can belong, grow, and do their best work.

About the Role

As an Italy Payroll Analyst, you will be responsible for administering and overseeing the end-to-end payroll process for our Italy population. You’ll partner closely with HR, Finance, Employment Tax, Legal and our external payroll providers to ensure accurate, compliant and timely payroll delivery.

This is an individual contributor role requiring strong technical expertise in Italian payroll legislation, statutory compliance and employee taxation. You will act as the Italy Payroll Subject Matter Expert (SME), ensuring robust payroll governance, maintaining high standards of accuracy and supporting continuous improvement across our Workday and CloudPay payroll ecosystem.

You will also play an important role in identifying opportunities to simplify, automate and improve payroll processes, while supporting wider global payroll initiatives and projects.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Lead the end-to-end Italy payroll process — from data preparation, validation and payroll inputs through to review, reconciliation and final sign-off, ensuring accurate and timely payroll delivery.
• Act as the Italy Payroll SME, providing expert guidance on Italian payroll legislation, taxation, statutory requirements and payroll best practice.
• Support other payroll entities within the team where required, contributing to the successful delivery of the wider global payroll operation.
• Oversee outsourced payroll processing with our payroll provider, CloudPay, ensuring agreed SLAs, controls and quality standards are consistently met.
• Partner cross-functionally with HR, Finance, Employment Tax and Legal to resolve payroll issues, ensure accurate data flows and deliver a seamless employee payroll experience.
• Maintain strong knowledge of Italian payroll legislation and statutory requirements, ensuring payroll processes remain compliant with regulatory changes.
• Ensure the accurate and timely processing of Italian statutory payments, contributions and filings, including social security, income tax and other applicable statutory requirements.
• Review and reconcile payroll outputs, identifying discrepancies and ensuring issues are investigated and resolved before payroll sign-off.
• Prepare and reconcile payroll journals and Finance reporting, ensuring payroll costs are accurately reflected in financial records and supporting audit requirements.
• Manage payroll controls and governance, ensuring appropriate checks are completed throughout each payroll cycle and maintaining a strong audit trail.
• Drive continuous improvement and automation, identifying opportunities to reduce manual processes, improve controls and increase payroll efficiency.
• Act as SME for CloudPay and Workday payroll processes in Italy, supporting system enhancements, integrations, testing and payroll-related projects.
• Support Workday and payroll implementation/migration projects, including requirements gathering, testing, parallel runs and go-live activities.
• Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, proactively identifying risks and resolving payroll issues.
• Share knowledge and best practice with colleagues across the wider Payroll team, supporting a culture of continuous learning and operational excellence.
• Support regional and global payroll initiatives, ensuring Italy remains aligned with Deliveroo’s wider payroll strategy and operating model.

Requirements

• 3+ years of progressive payroll experience, including significant experience managing Italian payroll and statutory compliance.
• Strong technical knowledge of Italian payroll legislation, employment taxation, social security and statutory requirements.
• Experience managing or overseeing outsourced payroll providers, ideally within a multinational or international organisation.
• Experience with Workday and/or CloudPay is preferred but not essential.
• Proven ability to manage the full payroll lifecycle, including payroll inputs, validation, reconciliation, sign-off and statutory reporting.
• Strong understanding of payroll controls, governance, audit requirements and data integrity.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a high level of attention to detail.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across HR, Finance, Tax, Legal and external vendors.
• Demonstrated ability to identify and deliver process improvements, automation and operational efficiencies.
• Experience supporting payroll system implementations, integrations, testing or transformation projects is desirable.
• Advanced Excel skills, with the ability to perform detailed payroll reconciliations, analyse large datasets and identify discrepancies.
• Ability to work independently, take ownership of deliverables and confidently challenge processes or data where required.
• Fluent Italian and strong English communication skills are highly desirable.
